The Probability of Miracles by Wendy Wunder

The Probability of Miracles by Wendy Wunder
"Dry, sarcastic, sixteen-year-old Cam Cooper has spent the last seven years in and out hospitals. The last thing she wants to do in the short life she has left is move 1,500 miles away to Promise, Maine - a place known for the miraculous events that occur there. But it's undeniable that strange things happen in Promise: everlasting sunsets; purple dandelions; flamingoes in the frigid Atlantic; an elusive boy named Asher; and finally, a mysterious envelope containing a list of things for Cam to do before she dies. As Cam checks each item off the list, she finally learns to believe - in love, in herself, and even in miracles."- summary from Amazon

Wow. This is a really powerful debut. I absolutely loved it- it's filled with humor, a great cast of characters, a wonderful romance, and touching moments. For me, it read a bit like an easy, breezy book (mainly because of humor and how quickly I was turning the pages) but it's anything but. There's some very real issues going on here and Wunder handled them extremely well.

I honestly don't really know what to say about this book because it's just so amazing. Cam is a great main character who's sarcastic and cynical, but really needs to learn to let in hope. Every character in this book (or at least, in Cam's family and Asher) has a journey to go through where they learn more about themselves and how to free themselves from the fears holding them back.

Overall, a beautifully-told story with heart, humor, and romance. Can you really ask for anything more? Wunder is an author to definitely keep an eye on.
